While I understand the logic, when and where is this going to stop? Aunts, Uncles, Grandfathers, Father, Brothers, Sisters, etc., etc. According to the story the men who accompanied Beale to the Morriss establishment were from the Richmond area. Other then these "unnamed" men what do any of these other "relations" have to do with the story as they are never referenced? Over the years it seems just about everybody has been convicted at some time or another as being co-conspirators. Why? How? Just because they are blood? And these relations don't even have to be blood in order to have, in some way, found their way into the tale. How? Did someone somewhere find a document that details their direct involvement with the story?

Those who had a direct involvement with the Beale Papers job print pamphlet and would know if the story was created :
James Beverly Ward, copyright agent and publisher
Harriet Emmaline Otey Ward, his wife
John William Sherman, cousin and printer of the pamphlet, also wrote a review and adds in the LYNCHBURG VIRGINIAN
Charles W Button, owner of the newspaper and print shop at which Sherman worked.
F C Hutter, Ward's cousin who had Confederate code and cipher experience
Max Guggenheimer, friend who sold copies at his Lynchburg store, and was mentioned in the Beale Papers.
William D Johns, Ward's son-in-law who supplied the Adams Bros & Paynes letterhead Ward used for copyright application.
OTHER POSSIBLES:
Sarah Mitchell Morris, Robert's wife, cooked meals for Beale would have known the story from her husband
Anzoletta Saunders, niece at whose house Robert Morris was interviewed by the "unknown author", would have seen the iron box and other possessions of her uncle, and where Morris died.

weird idea occurred to me looking for Nancy in the Chancery Records
i saw ,did not save links, several disputes over land in or near goose cr
and the bufordville rail station......so what if the BP was published to
cause some probs for land owners in the 4mile reference in the BP
not sure how effective that would be during that era, just a weird idea
as the short run of the BP never set well with me, they could have just
lowered to .25$ to gain sales when the .50$ didnt seem to work
that type of investigation in those Chancery Records, would take awhile
not to mention a lot of the records arent on line, the notation says

That is why I posted the above list, of those who would or should have had knowledge concerning the veracity of the presented treasure story of the 1885 Beale Papers.
Everyone wants to go back to the 1820's to prove this tale, when in reality it originated during the "2nd year of the Confederate War" with the alleged claim of the "unknown author" of being told the story and shown the letters, and iron box containing the ciphers to the delivery of the finished manuscript to Ward to copyright as agent and publish, to those involved in the printing, marketing, and sale.
These are the people who would know if the Beale perilous adventure treasure story was true, or just a dime novel with play along parlor entertainment ciphers sold for the purpose of making a profit.

Well, at least a few of those names are referenced in the pamphlet and attached to its publication and advertising. Have no idea how the others are directly connected?

The unknown author

The above is a revised list with all manner of speculation removed. Sure, it's an extreme revision, but since nobody can establish/confirm who the unknown author really was then the above is the reality once all assumption and speculation is taken out of the picture. The entire tale is an unknown, a uniquely crafted hook and bait despite all of it's errors.

Was there ever an "unknown author", or is that meeting with Morriss at the widow Saunders house just another part of the story development to draw in the unwary reader?
