The questionable pinpointer

So I was MD at an old school on Sunday and with every hole I would be able to pin the spot where the buried treasure was. I dug it, found it pulled it out. used the pinpointer in the hole and it said there was still something in the hole. NOTHING. OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Literally 4 hours of frustration. Is this some kind of mineralization? I would adjust the AT PRO and then nothing would signal.

Some people that have a Garrett's have said when the tip is pressed on it will false.

I had a different one that the wires were loose inside and it went off when ever.

Try holding the pp in the dirt when you turn it on. If it's a garrett, you can also put some pressure on the rear when you turn it on. That will help keep it from falsing when pressing in the hole.

Some things other than a target that can set your pinpointer off:

1. Your ring
2. Your shoes
3. Setting your digger down too close to the hole
4. Your ear phone cord dangling too close
5. A big piece of metal deep in the hole

I was in an area once where there were a lot of small rusted away something or another in the ground.

The iron literally melted into an area of oxidization that hit on the detector. When I dug it, it would scatter the remaining halo of rust making the concentrated area less so, and now lost to the detector.

Look for the rust discoloration as you carefully dig thru to see if you are in a similar area.
