Went to the local fairgrounds where a yearly fair finished two weeks ago. I took my coin sweeper(Platinum) to cherry pick the grounds. I was there for about two hours and had found about 50 clad coins ranging from the surface to three inches deep. For giggles, I decided to hunt an area that I can usually find a wheat penny or two, but not the loads of clad. I had hunted this area a while back with the Platinum so I was not expecting too much. Right off the bat I got a bouncing 50 to 84 signal that changed depending on the direction of the sweep. I dug down about three inches and found the tab part of a newer pull tab. I rechecked the hole with my pinpointer and got a deeper signal. From two inches deeper comes the 84 signal which was a 1965 clad quarter. I have had more expensive detectors with dd coils pull this feat, but the Platinum was spot on and with a concentric coil to boot. A few minutes later I got a perfect, repeatable 78-80 signal that showed 6 inches on the depth gauge in pinpoint. That coin turned out to be a 1917 wheat penny from 7 inches deep. Two short passes later, I got a similar signal and it too was an old wheat penny. If anyone is looking for an inexpensive detector that is more than capable, give this detector a try. I hate to sound like a "broken record", but this detector is the best bargain I have seen. R.L.
