This full groove axe was found 10/28/2007 in Hancock County Indiana.
It was a nice sunny day, I was walking along the creek to where a new rock quarry was being dug. In the past I had found a number of nice Harrison County points, and two round bullets. Darrell found a nice cache blade in this field back in the 1980's.
As I crossed over a tree line, I walked onto a ridge of dirt pushed up into a dike like ridge on the southern edge of the quarry. Right there on top, completely exposed was this full groove axe.
It has a look similar to slate in that one can see lamination lines in the stone. But it is not slate, but granite. A few plow strikes are seen on the axe face and poll area. An old break on the poll and bit may have resulted from a plow strike.
