I'm longtime follower but first time poster; I thought this was worth a mention. I was going through a box of halves yesterday, and came upon this bad boy. I got all worked up thinking it was a seated liberty half, but after figuring out that I was looking at Queen Victoria on the other side, calmed down a bit. I believe it's a 1867 British farthing. The coin feels like its covered in tar, you might be able to see the smudge it left on the paper below it. I pulled two 40% Kennedys out of the box, a '67 and a '68; so this farthing was the oldest coin in the box by 100 years. It's the oldest coin I've come across hunting by quite a bit, too, with my prior record holder being a 1901 nickel.
