It looking ridiculous against today's pool. anyway in those days there was not much resources that's whey they use this condensely...

It has nothing to do with a modern swimming pool. It's called research. That's the type of place most of us would give our eye teeth to hunt.
 

No big deal to pee in it, that is probably where a lot of the towns waste water ended up.....yuck "Tommy, I don't think that is a floating stick"
 

I'm hunting around an above ground pool (huge), was built in 1923. Hasn't been used for years. Is in a 10 acre public park next to a river.
