OK, these are definitely Roman, I find them at most of my sites & they are all Villa/homesteads. Very little military issue on any of them. They are another item which every expert as had a best guess. (none have been found attached to anything) Thought to be a dagger pommel by some, but the guess which holds the most water with me is some kind of furniture fixing. Makes the most sense, as the wood would rot leaving the Archies with no evidence of what they mounted.

Could be Cru, the one on the left though as a blob of iron on it's base ???

I believe the all had iron fixings on the base, to screw into the wood.

Hi Rob, the only Roman helmet I can find in my books that has that type of adornment is the early "Montefortino type". Although there were several other types of helmet used throughout the life of the empire. In hind sight I think Cru might be right, but here are some pics of reproduction helmets for you to compare.

I had 4 of these off one site & they were all slightly different. Its a farm type site, so the likely hood of 4 slightly different helmet pieces from it are :dontknow: Bearing in mind the Romans were masters of massive production & every helmet would look the same, otherwise they might have been picked up on inspection :laughing7:

What Rob has them resting on for the pic gave me an idea..although probably totally wrong lol.

Could they be the decorative corner posts they used to have on Roman scrolls?
