Ma.
Detector(s) used
Depends on what Im looking for!
So this morning went ok, I went to the magic field, My buddies Laralucine for once was early and Johnnycaschhunter was late!totally reversed from usual! When we got to the field it had not been plowed as I had hoped, But there was lots of room to hunt anyway. We were hunting places we had hunted last fall but there was still stuff to be foynd, JCH was finding lots of targets as everytime I looked over he was on his knees,Laralucine was as usual finding more stuff with her eyes than her Detector, I found 10 early wheats a large horse bridle rosette, Several sterling spoons as this field has given us lots of very early dated stuff , all early teens, and every kind of silver coin you could think of! Also I found several buttons and a very early Mercury dime 1926, A lead horses body and a small shield emblem with a key hole in it. Oh and I found a ring with I think Chinese writing on it, The field was part of a farm that had a gigantic field that was bulldosed recently and now has a sewerage drainage system for condos on it, What a field that was I only got to hunt it for 2 yrs before that happened, Every time I went there i saw coins sticking out of the ground as well as sterling silver flatware and relics, It s gone now and all thats left is 2 small fields , But they still produce all the time, It was a piggery and I also think before that it was a fair or meeting ground because all this stuff cant be just from a farm with pigs on it, This farm is very out in the open and I cant believe nobody else hasent been there, I have complete access to the farm and as far as I know nobody else will ever have permission to hunt it as the main owner who became my friend the many times I hunted there we talked all the time recently passed away, That made me so sad, His family has given me complete access but only to me.If I am to find a Gold coin around here( this area is heavely hunted) this will be the place, Almost everytime I go here I find Gold jewelry or Gold watches. I hope I can bring some other new hunters here once and a while as I like to see new hunters find lots of cool stuff so they will get into the hobby and also bring me to some of there new places as they get them.Happy Hunting to all of u treasure Hunters and invite some new hunters to go once in awhile and they will give it back, Thats how I met Laralucine and JCH, ON T-Net recently :)Bye 4 now.

It's always fun to find places like that!! I'm working on finding one or two up my way for this fall or next spring.

Looking forward to Lara and JCH's finds!

laralucine is lazy;) Whenever we go to this field, everyone but me finds marbles. Before a couple of weeks ago, I hadn't found a single one! Time before last, I found FIVE, plus a cavalry button or something, a really thin gold pendant, lots of pocket watch pieces, and bunches of little bottles. This time I found one marble and a ca. 1860 eagle coat button, shank intact, a busted but older-looking silver ring, and the usual twisted spoons and stuff....I personally haven't found any coins except for wheaties there (this time I found a holed wheat ???), but have found some other cool things, some of which I posted when I found them. One of these days, I'll take some pictures of my best finds from the "magic" field and get Scott and JCH and whoever else to get theirs together too :D

Scott, Lara,

Once again I had a great time.

Let me just say, Scott's field really is amazing. The field is just brimming with targets, you only need to take a step or two before your detector is sounding off again, though, trust me, at times this can be both a blessing and a curse. However, the real "Magic" of the field, at least in my opinion, comes in the diversity of the finds there. There are more unique, fascinating and just plain oddball items in these two small fields than in all of the other places I've ever hunted. The site must have a lot more history to it than what is known.

Scott was kind enough not to mention the dolt headed maneuver that I made while detecting with him in the field. I was detecting along the inside edge of the field, adjacent to an old stone wall that had long ago had become eveloped with a thick growth of twisted vines, scrub trees and other vegetation. There must have been some type of fruit or berries on the vines, because the air was filled with a heavy sweet scent, almost like red wine. I looked around but I couldn't see any grapes. I was slowly making my way along the wall when I got a very strong, high tone, signal. I knew right away that the target was going to be silver. Silver really makes that Garrett GTI1500 pop. I pinpointed my target and went down for the recovery, it wasn't too hard find. Out of the ground came a bright silver spoon. The spoon naturally was bent a little, but I could still clearly see that it was marked sterling on the back. The front of the spoon caught me by surprise as it had a really neat picture of Plymouth Rock and the date 1620 on the upper stem. I figured the spoon was an early souveneer from Plymouth, MA.. Foolishly, I attempted to straighten the bends in the spoon. I was working the bends out ever so gently, and I really didn't think I'd cause it any harm but, of course, I ended up breaking it. Oh well, live and learn. I was a little pissed at myself, it was my favorite find of the day, at least up to that point. Scott gave me a few light hearted zings after that mishap and I suspect I'll be hearing about that spoon again.

On a personal note...
The spoon made me think back to a memory from when I was a kid. When I was young, 6 or 7, my mother had given me this nickname, she would always call me "hammer hands". Apparently, it seemed no matter what I got my hands on back then, I would manage to break it....lol I guess some things don't change.

Happy Hunting All,

JCH

Hehe - good story JCH! Every time I find something that I can't quite identify or that I think "needs" to be straightened out or examined more closely, I have to remind myself over and over again to wait until the end of the day so I'll be more tired and will take more time and care with it.

There's just too much adrenaline rushing and excitement when you make a good find and with that comes too big a chance to damage it.

I even take small ziplock baggies with me when I think of it, so that if I'm out in the field away from the car and find something that looks really good I can keep it separate from my other finds so I don't run the risk of getting it scratched or otherwise damaged if I just put all my goodies in one pocket.

Hope we can get a chance to run across one another again this fall or next year for sure. Hunting sites alone gets boring :)
