The Legend Of 'Brown Head Springs'
After the Civil war was over, a soldier returned from the fighting to his home in AR, finding that his girlfriend had been unfaithful, he killed her & her lover, he 'decapitated her', & taking her head made for the Choctaw Nation, in what is now OK.
People who had 'ran afoul' of the law, (what little there was then), often made for the 'Nations', to hide out.
Passing a 'mineral spring', that was stained with 'sulphur or Iron', he threw the 'fair blonde head' into the spring, & rode on.
The spring was 'overgrown' with weeds, & the Indians never drank from it, so the head was 'undetected' for years, slowly becoming preserved by the minerals in the spring, & gradually turning a 'leathery looking brown'.
In later years, after 'white settlement' had started, a farmer cleaning around the spring, found the head, thus giving it the name.
The man was never caught, as far as anyone knows, & that is (The Legend Of Brownhead Springs).
