I don't usually collect too much paper currency but this one is my favorites. It's a 2 Dollar Bill from The Hatters Bank in Bethel, Connecticut dated 1855. It is hand cut and hand signed with a plain back.

The bank was first chartered in 1852 and became the First National Bank of Bethel in 1865. The bank went into receivership on February 28, 1868. The Hatters Bank was robbed in what has become locally known as "The great Bethel Bank Robbery of 1858".
Thanks for looking!
Nick

That's a cool note. I love items that hold a great deal of local history. Great piece for any New Englander's collection.

So true, oxbowbarefoot...it's the local history and those local inhabitants of long ago that bring history to life for me.
