The "groom" is Allan Gardner, a Florida diver who is seeking to salvage the ship.

Is that the same diver that was arrested in the Bahamas for poaching historic shipwrecks? His salvage boat is called the "Ella Warley II."

Yep Pete, same name. I would assume he is in jail somewhere. I saw the boat for sale a while back. I just looked at the link, yes thats him. He worked quite few shipwrecks in the past 10 years or so. I guess it will be a while till he works it.

Don't know if this wreck would be worth it. She carried $5000 in gold in a safe which belonged to Adams Express Co. which still exists today. There could potentially be some legal trouble there.

There was another $8000 in gold in one of the staterooms which belonged to a passenger. If the ship was partially salvaged before and gold was found, this was likely what they found.

The cargo wasn't anything special either. Predominately dry goods, provisions, leather, hay and mail.

If Allan Gardner wants to put the time and money into a salvage effort, more power to him. Personally, I wouldn't attempt it. It would probably cost far more than I would ever make in profit.
