Hello Again!

One other mysterious find at my old waterfront/colonial forest spot the other day was this huge deposit of old grommets and some other type of clip/fastener/hardware that I don't recognize. I found dozens of these things (see photos) in one 3x3 patch of clearing between trees, about 20 feet or so from shore. They were buried anywhere from 1 to 4 inches down under thick root/leaf cover. I've found relics as old as the 1720s here, so who knows how old these are.

Anyone recognize them? I'm most interested in IDing the oval-shaped items. They have some kind of depression/slot/groove in front. These are two pieces, so in the back four tongues are bent over to hold the inset piece in place.

Any thoughts would be a great help.

Thanks,
Brendan

50's and later Sports cars and convertables used the oval ones for attaching the top to the body. Quite common iinto the 70's. I dont think used today.

The oval ones are also used on military canvas ammo bags for a closing device, a flat swiveling tab fits in the little notches, I have one here but can't post pics yet.
