Today was a very foggy day! Thought I would detect through a plowed field then onto a grass field at the end to clean off the boots, plan worked but I did not find much. Only found a musket ball on the plowed field, the mud was sticking real bad and I was glad to get off of it. The grass field is a slow area with minimal targets and a lot of iron, was a farm/hotel and had 4 large barns where I was detecting. The site is over 1000 years old and one of the first homesteads in the area, very close to where I found my gold coin. Here’s the pictures and finds. The field with a heavy layer of fog. I enjoy detecting in the heavy fog for some reason and like it even better at night.

The finds. A musket ball, a lead seal with the Bavarian coat of arms, another musket ball, a lead bullet and a very unusual lead bullet. The unusual bullet was a pioneer trial at making the type of bullets we use today inserted into a casing, mid 1800s but I am not sure. I have a few of these bullets that vary in shape and style, they were short lived. We had a Gun factory in the town where I detect from the mid 1600s to the mid 1800s, I assume some of these unusual bullets come from the development of the weapons designed and built here. I have detected around the gun factory and in the cellar of the main building, did not find much but will get back there again sometime. My son’s best friend parents own/live in the building.

A metal button with a glass insert and a cufflink with a glass face. Had a good time out there! HH, Mike

what cam do you use/how many megapix? Your pics are so clear/vivid and I'm looking for a new cam myself.

Thanks and hey LW, I have a Ricoh Caplio RR30 3.2 Mega Pixel camera. I think it is a European release so it is probably called something else like a different model in the states, I bought it in Germany after they quoted a probable $200.00 repair on my old camera. Cheaper to buy new with a 3 year warranty. I would consider a Nikon Cool Pix camera if I were in the market for a new camera. Don't get confused by the newer 8 Mega Pixel cameras, they just cost more, make really big pictures and you are only going to resize the pics down, you do not need the resolution and it is useless. You can get a really good deal on a lower end camera and they take great pics. PM me if you have any questions, for around $120.00 or cheaper, you can have a nice camera. HH, Mike

Great hunt there Mike ...and very cool finds.
I also have a Nikon Coolpix and it works just great....(possibly the operator could use some lessons ;),but the cam is nice.)

Great stuff Mike. I guess the farmers over there like to dress up when they plow. How else would the cuff link end up there...............LOL

it was foggy down our way too. what were the lead seals used for? Cool finds by the way! I hope you can dig out in our area soon :)

Thanks all and hey Viper, the lead seals were lead bag seals. They sealed bags of various commodities such as salt, meal/flour, wheat/grain and seed. They had a thin leather strap that went through them that went around the bag top. Also used as tax stamps. HH, Mike

Hey Mike .....What is the cuff link made of ?......Excellent find's.

Ah cool! I could see why they would fall off. Thanks for the info! :)

Cool stuff. I like the picture of the detector on the field with the fog. ;D How do you like that Minelab? Is that an Xterra 70?

Cool bullet Mike. I like nite hunting myself too. Concealment and stealth. Not too many stupid treasure questions get asked at 10:00pm either.

Kodak Easyshare. 8Mp 5x optical/5x digital. $260

Thanks all! Hey Mirage, yes it is a Minelab X-Terra 70 with the 10.5" DD 7.5 KHz coil, I thought I was using the 18.3 KHz coil till just now, LOL! Bought it used with 3 coils, have known of the guy I bought from for a few years and he is a good guy. I'm impressed with the machine, I'm getting as deep if not deeper than my XLT with a 12" Hot Shot coil and I'm using a DD coil. I dug a darn recipe card sized piece of tin at 15" the other night, with a DD coil? Whoa! The target sounded good. It also has great target separation, I can pick out signals when targets are close together and some of my finds have been masked by iron. Sounds off well on small targets, pea sized targets at 6-8" sound real good. I've been running it in all metal mode with the sense down at 25. HH, Mike
