With 2011 coming to an end and the weather here in Western NY mild and without snow I decided to go down to Centerville and do some NewYears eve detecting......I called a friend of mine Jim and off we went.
When we arrived at our destination we had a big surprise.....(SNOW) at least a few inches here and there....so that was not going to stop our end of the season outing! I have been in this area in the past but there were 2 cellar holes we never found dating back on or before 1850s.....It did'nt take long before i pulled out a small quarter size crotal bell down around 10 inches , it was deep. With the ground wet from recent rains and the snow melting with the temps in the 40's ....I'm sure you get the picture....Mud and more mud , it was impossible to stay dry Jim happen to find the next item it was a coronet large cent....we continued with a few other relics, then things started getting slow.........we moved just down the road and found another foundation that happen to be at leat 60 yard or so off the road.....again finding more items. Jim finds another large cent in an area thick with brush ... Now my goal is to do work and find a coin everytime i get out , its like my own personal goal when detecting! No site is hunted out!!! I do believe that.....we continnued and in an open grass field next to the old cellar hole i finally get a big hit and only 4 to 5 inches down pops out this 1912 Barber Quarter in great conditon........It was a great coin to end the 2011 season.
Happy New Year to everybody here in Tnet .......Stay safe, be happy and stay healthy!!!
Keep on Digging!! John
This is one of the nicest Barber coins I have found!!
The small button has what looks to be a crest of some type but not sure ....The gold gilt button shows a planter design with floral arrangement......
