Did you ever wonder how that Egyptian Obelisk ended up in New Yorks' Central Park ?
Me neither...
But I was more than a little bored today and googled up "Ancient Cache" and ran across the New York Times archive stories about a "cache" found at the base of the Obelisk not realizing it was an article from 120 years ago.
Not really recent news, but makes for interesting reading - The Obelisk and coins both ended up in the US, I wonder where the coins are now. BTW, great work by Mr. G.L. Feuardent, the man that researched the coins, his results can be found in the second link.
For the NYT arcitles you'll have to click on the VIEW FULL ARTICLE button to see a PDF of the original.
Hope you enjoy the story as much as I did.
regards,
Jim
