So I went to a public park in a local town yesterday. I was having a pleasant hunt, raking in lots of clad. I found an electronic cigarette (they go for $35.00 apiece!), a bling cross pendant and a bling spider ring.

Out of the surrounding neighborhood comes a very aggressive and persistent pit bull/boxer mix dog, hell bent on attacking/ biting me, my machine, and the family nearby enjoying the playground. Maxine, my ATMax, and I stare down the mutt and I keep the coil between it, me, and the family, who have now climbed up onto the monkey bars to get out of the way. I have drawn my Lesche tool and was about to yell, "This is Sparta!" (But we weren't in Sparta, we were in Willard, and it just wouldn't pack the same punch...)

th

The family was concerned enough to call the PD, which responded promptly and eventually ran the dang dog off out of the park while trying to catch it. I continued my hunt, no harm done this time, but I will be carrying my can of dog repellent (ironically found on a lawn while detecting) whenever I go out now....Happy Hunting to all! Sub 8-)

I’ve been there. Unleashed aggressive dogs are my biggest concerns. I’m typically 50’ in the park woods and have had dogs come crashing through to find me, luckily they have all been friendly dogs so far, no Sparta action ...

Nice!!! Congrats!!! I’m gonna have to get some of that spray. :)

Cool cross and finds I dont trust Pit Bulls Always safer to carry a side arm my friend

Nice finds. Congrats! Glad you were there to help out and all ended well.

Glad you weren't hurt Sub. I run across wild (dumped or stray) dogs in some of the wooded parks I hunt. I had a pack of 6 come close one time, but they did not show aggression. I do carry my sidearm just in case, whether its wild dogs or bad humans.

Cool treasures, wonder if you can sell the electronic cig? Sorry to hear about the dog, you did well.

Sounds like you and Maxine had fairly nice walk. Small interruption notwithstanding.

I once had a dog come he'll bent for blood. I did the same, placed AT inbetween plus.....I came up with my knife in combat ready position. With the blade up against my arm, handle down. I wouldn't want to but......if it had tried, it would have tasted steel in the first bite.

Anyhoo, glad it worked out for you and the family. Actually, I think you did a good thing for the hobby by playing the part of guardian.

Stumbling in corn is not the *only* thing this detectorist can do. ;)

Good job!
Good walk!

Oh! And BTB ....a found can of repellent might not be a good thing. It might have gotten "lost" when it was found ineffective. (Sorta like throwing the empty gun at the bad guy ;) Which reminds me...whenever I see that on an old western? I hear this .....beeping sound in my head....:metaldetector::tongue3:

Perfect! I am glad to see that I am not the only detectorist who has had to deal with OPD's. (Other peoples' dogs) I don't know of many people or dogs who would want to mess with an angry Lesche tool, as they are pretty much a small Gladius, (Roman army short sword!) :laughing7:
