Just got this Knife River Flint piece from the Dakotas back from a brief trip to Florida for a little work. The good doctor always amazes me.

I wonder if he could do a broken drilled shark tooth.

...but but but....HOW does he do that?

If its Gomer he has done it for a long time. Nice job on that one.

Who else?

He's done many of them for me over the years, and they are all well done. I bet I still have 10 or so.

Scott Stoneking I've seen his work at ASO shows does amazing work.Ive never had a piece restored but do have a nice paleo lance with a nick in the blade I might have done.

Looks like he has some talent too. I am surprised at how much he will add to a segment. I'm sure you will show us your lanceolate should you decide to go ahead with the restoration.

Nice restoration job Quito, it’s a beautiful and well-made point.

I know a lot of folks having varying opinions concerning artifact restoration and I find it interesting how the restorer determines or imagines what the missing part(s) of an artifact may have looked like.

As an example, this is what I would imagine the base of your Allen point would have looked similar to, (one on the right).
Thanks for posting the before and after pics.

Thanks 11Kbp. It is a great example of the type.

One thing about this type of restoration, it can be taken back to *as found condition* if need be. Something that can't be said for some of the other methods.

I concur about the base. It wouldn't take much to get those ears rounded, and I just may have it done.

yup quito
nice piece
Knife River Flint was North Dakotas first export commodity
the huge KRF quarry at Dunn Center is about 75 miles NW of me....the mauls and tools for the harvest or mining of this material are still present at the site where they were used
the quarry has been named a National historic site last year

Thanks Steve, The honey harvesting is done, the concrete work is coming to an end for the season soon, I may just get up there this fall and check it out. A good friend of mine was there last year.
