Beautiful Virginia coat button. Congrats.

Congratualtions on the button recovery!

That's a really nice state button in great shape.

Nice find.
I use Deus units,,,very forgiving in rotten sites with iron and nails vs many others.
It likes round things BIG time,,in ferrous materials.

Great find! For the life of me I cant figure out why anyone would want to relic hunt with a 30/30. I had one and my buddy who just started hunting with me has been using one for a few years. Guess what hes got coming in the mail wed? you guessed it didnt take long for him to see the light lol great button I havent found one of those.

They (VA buttons) are a lot rarer down your neck of the woods than up here. ;)

I think my hunting partner got one around wilminton some years ago, thats the only one ive heard of here.

You just never know, that what I like best about this hobby. I definitely wasn't expecting this to pop out of the ground however I knew the potential was there. I went from the AT Pro to the CTX thinking I would get better depth in this Virginia soil. Honestly I can't say I'm not getting the greatest depth with the Deus, but the recovery speed in iron is a game changer compared to the CTX. Maybe this new coil Deus is releasing will help with the depth I'll have to see. Keep hunting that Virginia button is out there for you. Heck I would like to find a South Carolina one.

Congrats!! Very nice!

new coils will not increase depth, more suited for low conductors IE: gold and smaller targets. I think the 11x13 is the deepest coil they make but some disagree with me here :)

I agree the 11x13, all things being equal, is probably deeper than the 9" and 11". I may be mistaken, but don't believe I have said it definitely isn't. But how much deeper is the real question (inches or fraction of an inch?) and is it really worth the cost and increased weight and moment (oem shaft balance and flex) for that relatively small inch per $ gain in depth. I have yet to see a real depth difference between the 9" and 11" but have not done scientific testing. Wouldn't mind seeing a comparison among all three, but I don't place a lot of stock in air tests. But for open field gridding you do get more coverage with the 11" (and of course with the 11 X 13) and that may be the most significant advantage of the large coil. Not a very popular accessory based on how much people post about it (practically nil as far as I have seen) and that tells me something. You are correct about the new coil not really increasing depth. The rule of thumb is that low frequency gives you more depth and larger coil size would also. So the HF coils are going in the wrong direction if you want depth. Target separation, especially among small, low conductors, well that's a different story altogether and that is where the new coils will likely shine. Finally, the new coils, supposedly because of their extreme frequency coverage will be locked at Tx power 2, I believe, so that is also not in the direction of more depth.

Maybe calabash can revisit some of his 12" to 15" targets he used for his depth video and see if the 11" coil hits any harder than the 9.

That would be good info.

I'm pretty sure he has done this. I like the 11" coil. but I believe Calabash leans more towards the 9". as far as depth I have recovered bullets at 10".
I have modern clad in my test garden at 10". the Deus hits on everything I have buried . my test garden is only a few months old so I'm fairly sure that the signal
will be stronger and depth will be gained on targets that have been in the ground for 100 to 150 years.

Good discussion guys, I'm still learning so I appreciate any information you all are willing to share. The next couple of months should be interesting with the new products coming out and reviews.

I never used the CTX , but I did use the etac around cellar holes in 2tone/fe and it's about the I d and going slow. I pulled some targets out of hunted out areas that was impressive. I'm swinging the deus now , was just keeping it real.

there is some benefit to every machine. I think some targets are just meant to be found by the person that finds them sometimes.
