The closest I'll ever come to liking country

Not a big country fan, but I will listen to a few select country artists/songs.

Which brings me to the rock band with a country flavor, The Band. I'm not sure how many know they actually got their start playing for Bob Dylan, and he just called them the band :tongue3: Well once they went on their own, their music style changed and I guess their biggest hit came with "The Weight" and was part of the "Easy Rider's" movies soundtrack.

Re: The closest I'll ever come to liking country

If somebody doesn't die then it ain't "country"!! ;D

Re: The closest I'll ever come to liking country

You mean if they're not dying, or drinking it ain't country :laughing7:

That is why my songs are only close. Listen to the second song and people are almost dying, and there is some heavy drinking in the 3rd song :tongue3: Yup, almost country :laughing7:

Re: The closest I'll ever come to liking country

Sorry mate. I only listen/watch video songs containing Dolly,Allison, Shania or Faith hill! :headbang: :coffee2:

Re: The closest I'll ever come to liking country

OMG Dano. You like Dolly Parton because she has two of the biggest hits in the country. (say it real fast out loud) Billy Joe Shaver, No Show Jones, Robert Earl Keen, Ray f***in Wylie Hubbard, Dwight Yoakam, ALL the Johnny's (Horton, Cash, Paycheck, etc.) HankI, HankII, and HankIII, Unknown Henson, the list goes on. Check some of them out for real country. Particulary HankIII, or tricephus.

Re: The closest I'll ever come to liking country

Country music is better than the bands that sing about doing drugs and killing everyone
and id rather hear classical music than 99% of todays pop groups for darn certain !!

Re: The closest I'll ever come to liking country

That's right Hombre DAC is a bigger legend, and influence then most have any idea of. Has written more hit songs than some peoples yearly income!

If you look at Coe funny at a show, You will learn something!

Re: The closest I'll ever come to liking country

I've seen Coe live at the Georgia Theater in Athens (legendary club that burned down recently) three times.

I think Coe is just into his 70's.

Re: The closest I'll ever come to liking country

Lots of country singers used to sing about prison (i.e. Johnny Cash) but the only ones I know that actually did time were Coe, Johnny Paycheck (assault), Merle Haggard (armed robbery), and Johnny Rodriguez (sentenced under an obscure old Texas livestock rustling law for stealing and eating a goat).
