Not to defend Mitchell here, as he (like many other treasure writers) was NOT a source of absolute truth in all things - however I believe I have all the articles and books of Mitchell and have never read nor heard of such a treasure as the "nelots treasure " in any of his works. Perhaps it is just my poor memory, but I would appreciate if you could remind me which article or book it appeared in? Thank you in advance, and congratulations on your discoveries!
Hello again,
So you are saying this was not published in a magazine or book, it was a local publication like a newspaper? I would like to track it down, if possible. Thank you in advance,
your friend,
Oroblanco
Not trying to be "picky" here but that Nelots treasure story was plagiarism on the part of Thomas Penfield, not John Mitchell. I know Penfield "borrowed" other folks tales, and anyone who writes of any lost treasure that has been published before is sort of "guilty" of plagiarism in that you are re-telling a story, right? I am not trying to 'defend' Penfield here, but he apparently did not expend a lot of time checking his sources before going to print - but is this not a case of mis-attributing the plagiarism onto Mitchell when it was really Penfield? I would appreciate if this could be clarified, thank you in advance,
Oroblanco
OROBLANCO:
Here's a few places that the story was published ... 1..Desert Magazine...Vol 16 No. 1 pg. 27-28
2..A Guide to Treasure in Arizona.. 1973 pg. 53-55 3..True Frontier.. Sept '70 pg.17
I have more, but these should lead to them (refer.) !!
I have #'s 1 & 3 in my research collection
SAY!
If you don't mind my asking,
What's the origin of your web name? OROBLANCO,
I know that the literal translation would be "White Gold" ?
Well! Doc, Misterbeee & I will be down in the Tumacacori/Atacosa Mnts in March
Once down there, we'll be there for several weeks ( Month?)
Have you any trips planned to Tucson around then ?
So what's the rest of the story? I've flown in a helo all over that area so I'm familiar with it. There are a lot of illegal aliens and drug mules that move through that area.
