The Carnival was in town

Our local fire department had its annual carnival this past week and it ended on Saturday Night. I'd never had a chance to detect after a carnival so I was pretty excited. Only bad thing, is that my work schedule was 6AM-2PM this week. Plus the fact that during work today my supervisor tells me I would have to stay for an overtime assignment today. I had to drive 2 hours to inspect a military flight due in at 1500 and then drive 2 hours back. By the time I got home it was 6:30. I rushed over to the fire house, and asked the lady at the front if it would be alright to check the area out. She says "Knock yourself out but there were already 3 or 4 people here at the crack of dawn detecting". I quickly drove home, changed and was back by 7:15.

I got 1 1/2 hours of detecting in before the sun abandoned me. I wound up finding 13Q, 5D, 5N and 23P, most all of it lying on the surface. I guess the other 4 people were only interested in the Quarters that were on the surface because I couldn't walk 2 feet without finding something. I probably passed up about 50 buried coins because I wanted to grab all the surface money everyone missed before it got dark. Needless to say, I'll be headed back there tomorrow. Plus there are 2 more carnivals in the coming weeks and by then I'll be back on my 2PM to 10PM shift so next time I'll be there grabbing the good stuff with everyone else.

I don't have any pictures because its late and I need to be up at 5AM tomorrow, its all just clad anyway.

great job!gotta get there early.Last year after our fair me and knorrski got there at about 10;00am and we did find our share of coins but minimal quarters cause a few people were there at dusk. This year I'll need a flashlight! ;D

When the next one ends, I'll be there as early as possible. I should still do pretty well with all the targets that weren't dug up yet. There were tons of them, it seemed that if the target wasn't on the surface then the other hunters didn't even care to dig it up. The same goes for pennies on the surface, there were still a lot of them laying in plain sight that I picked up yesterday.

I can see it now LOL they must have had discriminate turned up full blast and swinging like they were cutting hay! No competition at all go clean up!

Competition is tough at carnival sites!

Kind of funny when the trash is really the coins on top. You dont find that to often. Then again the silver earring I posted a couple of weeks ago was only after i cleaned all the coins the vegetable vendor had dropped in one little area. I couldnt believe I got that hit and it was only 5 inches down. You have a gold mind here I think.

Well, got off of work today at 5PM and headed back over. I managed to get 30 miutes of detecting in before it started to drizzle. Not a problem, I thought, its just a little rain and I kept going. A minute later the wind ripped the headphones from my head and the siren(Tornado warning) at the Fire House started to go off. At this moment I had to give in to the elements and beat a hasty retreat to my car. I did manage to find 3P, 2N and 7Q in the short time I was there. Hopefully next time I can actually spend some time there.

Tornado warning! You didn't fall for that one did you? You see any time the wind starts blowing, the Senior citizens go down to the fire dept. and ask them to test the siren....Then they all go out and hit the best areas...Man you got a lot to learn. LOL just kiddin.
