The Cannonball Guy's minutia
I've only met Pete George once before in Marietta and was in awe how how detailed he was in his descriptions of artillery munition but today at the Civil War show in Richmond he further blew me away. I had posted here a few months ago a lead carved acorn I had dug and nobody knew exactly what it was ,whether it was a bullet, sinker, or a clock fob,but Pete examined it this afternoon and was telling us about the different lead content in objects and the color of different leads and how they react to the ground. I knew different CW bullets were often solid white, sometimes a little buff colored, sometimes grey but I never knew why and it was additives to the actual lead that causes the different patinas.
