Up here in north country there is no detecting to be done except for detecting the sub zero wind creeping in through the windows. So I thought I'd wrastle with the digital cam, not my friend, and see if I could show you all pics of the small cache I found in my closet not long after I bought this house a few years back. I hadn’t moved in yet because there was a boatload of renovating to be done, but this day I was tearing out carpet from one of my closets, which a long, very heavy shelf sitting on the floor. It was wedged in there pretty good and I was trying to wiggle it forward when I heard the distinctive clink of coins but I didn't see anything. After several minutes of manuvering, I managed to pull the shelf out and found three partial rolls of coins had been tucked behind one back corner leg. One had tipped over and I could see that it held BIG coins. Had to be dollars, and I was hoping not Ikes. . I opened up the dollars and saw the beautiful peace and morgan dollars and let out a whoop. The other two rolls were a 50 cent roll and a quarter roll. The 50 cent pieces weren't as exciting, mostly kennedys and some of those clad, but there were a few walkers and the quarters were all silver. All in all there were 16 dollars : Peace dollars – 1922(3), 1923 (5), 1924 (1), Morgans -1921 (6) and 1891 (1), Halves – 1961 Franklin, 1917, 1936 and 1942 Walkers, 13 Kennedy halves 1964-68. Quarters were ’43,’46, ’47, ’52, ’57, ’58, ’61 (2), ’64 (20)

This aren’t the best pics, I couldn’t seem to get the lighting right, although the morgans look dark in the picture, they are actually in great shape.

I suspect that at one time the old gentleman who lived here before me had probably had money hidden everywhere in the house but just forgot about the closet cache when he moved out. I've been over nearly every inch of the house since then and no more caches, but I have a few more places to look.

oh hell, I want some of that luck.... how old is your home by the way... no one leaves me anything in the houses I bought except their trash they didnt take out..

Unbelievable finds. We hunt in the cold and you go to the closet. Great finds. I think I need to look in my stuff.

"Honey, where is the closet? Is it near where we throw the jackets on the chair?" Heh, heh.

Makes me want to rip my house apart. :D

Congrats, that's a very nice cache of coins to find. Maybe you will find more in the future.

Its a 1950's house. Later discoveries that also raised my blood pressure included plumbing that disintegrated in my hands, gas leaks (three to be exact) and uncapped live electrical wires in the ceiling. The house that keeps on giving...

Now that must've felt great finding that cache. Really nice find. Thank you old guy that sold you the house.
