This is one of the classic reference books on treasure hunting. Of particular interest is Paine's account of finding the long-hidden "French passes" that Kidd wasn't able to use in his defense at trial. Would have have saved him from swinging? Probably not. But the British government knew they were important evidence - that's why they hid them.

This one has been reprinted many times, and it is well worth reading!
