The best caliber?

I've never taken the 6x10 off mine.

The D2(whites 10" DD coil) is great for the deep targets and separates good for such a big coil, I can get silver dimes at 10"+ with that coil on the MXT and have hit a silver dime at 12". If your only using the 6x10 which is great coil then your probably missing some deeper targets, there are some old parks around here that I've found some silver with the D2 coil that I never would have found with the 6x10 DD because of the depth. HH

I too like the D2 for most of my hunting. It's deep, separates well & at 10" cover ground pretty well. I also have a 5.3 Eclipse that works good in tight & trash areas. It doesn't have the depth the D2 does obviously and can't cover the same ground in the same time but it does get into places the larger coil can't.

I've never used the 6x10 but I can see it being a good compromise of the D2 & 5.3 or 4x6.

Back when the D2 first came out I bought one for my MXT and it was like putting a super charger on it, I was hearing stuff with it that I hadn't heard with any of my other coils including the Super 12. The D2 covers ground faster, has the depth and the separation is incredible for a large coil like it is.

Sold the D2 off my V3i shortly after getting it so there's a vote for not getting the D2. Coil choice really depends on what you're looking for and where you plan on looking for it. Soil mineralization also plays a part. I live where there is very few old coins so most of my hunting is for clad and jewelry. The D2 gets good depth but for clad and jewelry it comes in about 5th or 6th on my list of coils for that situation. The Eclipse 5.3 is a get coil for trashy areas and it gets very good depth for its size. For even trashier areas the Eclipse 4x6 get the nod. The Eclipse 950 is a good all around coil for larger less trashy areas. It pinpoints well and gets good depth. It also works better than the D2, most of the time on saltwater beaches. Your S12 is probably best suited for farm fields and relic hunting on wide open areas. A top performer for recent coin and jewelry drops is the BigFoot made by Applied Creativity but it's no longer being made. Check the prices on used BigFoot coils, and you'll see that the demand has driven the prices to $350 - $500 (new they were $200). The HotFoot (also out of production) is great for competition hunts and fresh drops in very trashy areas, not much depth (3"- 4") but great seperation and super fast pinpointing. There's a lot of factors that need to be addressed to determine what coil is best for your situation. With more info, we can give better recommendations.

Well I live in Oklahoma and I'm either searching in sand or red dirt and I believe the dirt is red because of the rich iron content. As for my areas of search I live out in a small town with lots of old homesteads that are abandoned I've taken too searching around those in hopes for some old coinage. But I have and will again search some fresh water beaches and under bleachers for that mysterious gold diamond ring that I think I've found every time I go too dig. I'm extremely new too the game so any advice would be much appreciated and would not fall on deaf ears thanks

My D2 is OK in the lighter trash. I bought a 4x6 shooter coil for the real trashy areas and the difference is amazing. Takes a lot more time to cover an area though.

I have a DFX and my favorite coil is the 6X8 SEL coil. It separates very well and gets decent depth and rarely comes off the DFX. The D2 would get the nod in open areas even with light to moderate trash and the 4X6 in real trashy areas so just depends. There just is no magic coil that will work in all situations so I have those 3 that cover just about everything. I don't beach hunt but if I did, I would probably have the 950 coil too.

I like the 5.3 on the v3i. I just find more coins with it, and all the homesteads and old houses I hunt seem to belong to Blacksmiths. LOL. the d2 does not like the trash in my area. Thinking about trying something new like an elliptical d2 shooter next.

a day without pull tabs is like a day without sunshine.

The 5.3 will probably go a little deeper than the 4X6DD Shooter Coil but the 4X6DD sure is hard to beat in really trashy areas because of the separation capabilities. I have a 5.3 that i use on my Spectrum and it's good in trash but the 4X6DD Shooter on my DFX is better. I
