Just went on a 2 day CRH binge. Visited about 30 banks looking primarily for CWR of halves and dimes going through approx $3500 in coin. Used approx $50 in gas and put 300 miles on my car. Here are my big returns:

2 1964 halves (1 with a hole in it)
1 1965 half
5 Roosevelt dimes
12 Eisenhowers (no silver or rare types)
Handful of foreign from Penny Arcade

Also got shorted on numerous rolls, pennies in dime rolls and nickels in quarter rolls.

Not a productive 2 days.

I enjoy making coin runs like that. I call them "coin tours". Drive around all day and visiting every bank I pass. It has done well for me in the past. Not quite sure when I'll go on another one.

Nice finds.

What is that coin; I've never seen it before.

If you are referring to my avatar, it's a 1915 Cuban twenty cent piece. 90% silver. I found it in a coinstar last October.

that's rough man. I used to go on those quite a bit, just couldn't help myself and would go on insane 5 hour road trips, stopping at ridiculous #s of banks and buying all the CWR I could. I usually got the same results, and was left with tons of coin to dump. I have to use coin machines for all non-halves so that's never fu (i reroll the halves). I stopped after I totalled a car with only one ben and one 64 to show for it. drove basically across the tri-state area. A few months later and I got my best CWR half score ever, 12 rolls with 4-8 40s in apiece, plus 2 original BU rolls of bicentennials. that score was just while dumping, didn't even have to hunt. now I only ask if I'm already at that bank picking up or dumping boxes

better than finding nothing!

definitely better than finding nothing, but not better than staying home and saving the gas money. at least that's what I've come to realize! it's still fun though so probably still worth it

Just curious - how may CWRs of halves did you find that did not look like obvious dumps (i.e., machine crimped on one end and hand folder on the other)?

In my area, you can tell an obvious "dump" when a) its an even amount ($500, $100, $1000) b) they are marked on the side c) they are MWR's that have been taped or refolded. Probably half of what I found were dumps but I probably found about $300 in actual CWR's that were not.

My problem is with the idiots in this area who insist on re-wrapping and dumping DIMES. There are 2 different banks in the area that have free counters and yet they are re-wrapping them. They mark the sides but I gotta unwrap and dump their dumps. Lazy As__les!!!

Its never fun when you spend more than you find but hopefully you enjoyed the time spent hunting.

Yeah I too hate obvious dumps(halves for me), theres tons of banks with coin machines in the area, it makes no sense to turn in wrapped dumps...

Too bad on your run, but atleast you did find some silver... ive gone on runs and came back empty handed, bunch of times.

You never know. I did a road trip a few months ago, and way out of town I came on a bank with exactly $500 in halves. I was skeptical, but had little to show for the rest of my trip, and as it was closing time, I took them all. That $500 in CWR's saved my day, as it yielded 7 40%'s and a '62 Ben.

You just never know.
