I was doing a test of the 15-inch coil for the Nautilus IIB on Thanksgiving. The point was to hunt a "hunted out" site that was filled with trash and see if the giant coil would be able to find something other than trash.

I hunted for about 4 hours and dug enough shotgun shell and rifle brasses to fill a small can. I also dug these two 100+ year old buckles. This site had been the location of a 1880's horse stable for the community.

Someone told me it was a waist of time to even hunt the site. All the best THer's had covered it many times. "All that's left is trash" is what I heard.

Last week I hunted this same site with the 15-inch coil and found a ring and pocket watch (part of one).

Anyway, here are the two harness buckles from the Thanksgiving Day hunt.

Hey Badger, I watched your YouTube video about this test. But my biggest question is: Where did you get that shovel????

You did a great job with the video, love the music!!! If only you could have pulled out some silver with that huge coil. Oh well, the penny and the buckle made the trip to YouTube worthwhile. :D ;) ;D

Thanks for the nice comments about the video.

I don't fake my digs so they're all real life. It usually works out that when I dig silver or a gold ring I don't have the camera with me. But, I don't "stage" anything so that's the way it is.

The shovel may be found at:

Best to you.

Good luck with that large coil Badger.
That should get you down to the really deep old relics.

Happy holiday weekend buddy, thanks for posting!

Smiles!

Nice finds Badger, hope your hunting in a field with all that shovel and new coil. I'd hate to see anyone use that kind of equipment in a nice yard. You could almost dig to China with that gear. LOL

I'd like to buy a bigger coil for my detector, but think the extra weight would not be worth it.

I relic hunt 5,6, or 7 hrs at a time and my right elbow would fall off with all that weight. I used to use those big Hot Head coils, but they just got to heavy. I'm much older now and am satisfied with what I can find using the coil that came with the machine.

Hope you have much success with your new coil and your relic hunting adventures. Good Luck!

HH,Ringfinder

P.S.
Sorry I didn't get to see your video, I'm on dial up and it takes forever to down load those kind of things.

nice to see the nautilus find something in worked over areas. btw, I ordered a dmc11ba yesterday.cant wait to hit an old home site on our property if the weather will hold. its due next wed.

Hey Badger........those large coils take some getting use to...When your around those high trash areas you will have problems ....... ???

But in the open field you will be loving life ;) ......and you will see the difference!!! ....HH and good luck!

You'll love your IIBa. I want to get one myself in the spring.

I'm thinking seriously about selling my 6 and 10 inch coils and just using the 15-inch on my IIB. That 15 incher is a killer with the Nautilus. I find lots of small brass and lead at 14+ inches with it.
Also, do the rod mod that Brian sells (Southern Treasures).

nothing ain't never hunted out...

Cool buckles badger!

Boobydoo that coil does get down there. Thanks

Thanks ringfinder but the video is no big deal. I was just testing a big coil in a high trash site.

Seeker, I know what you mean about large coils. I don’t know if you’ve used the Nautilus yet but it’s the best I’ve seen with a large coil. In fact, it works best with the giant coil. I dug more than the video showed and all those targets were in spots filled with nails and trash. The Nautilus picked them up easily. I was very impressed.

Nice day out, I'll have to check out that youtube video! HH, Mike

How many times do I have to tell you to stay out of my back yard? :D
