"Thank you Miss" & the Ornary old fart !! .....
Strangest day I EVER had MDing !!
I decided to put in some time today at an old High School in the area at the coaxing of a new friend I have made here on TreasureNet. I parked on a side street & eye-balled an area that may have held something if the area had not been completely hunted out. I walked down a sidewalk while scanning the grassy area to the right. No hits / no surprise? . While doing another small area, a pretty young thing came up behind me & sort of startled me ( I was wearing headphones & did not know she was there )
The girl just wanted to ask directions to a Library in the area. I gave them to her and then she asked me what the heck was I doing ? I just responded that I liked to hunt for coins with a metal detector. "Have any luck" ? she asks. "Not yet" I respond. "Don't worry, I think your luck is going to change soon" she smiles, and walks away. ...
After getting not so much as a blip for 15 minutes, I figured time would be better spent elsewhere. I started going back to the car, again detecting the area to my right. I just then EYE-BALLED a nice shiney Nickle and 2 equally shiney pennies. I was perplexed as I am wondering HOW I missed these the first stroll up the walk !!? ? I reach down to pick them up. glance over in the grass next to them & hit the "Motherload" !! In a 3 square-foot area I spotted a BUNCH more coins ( 43 P, 2N, 2D in all !! ) Apparently, she waited until my back was turned & put the headphones back on where my attention was diverted, then pretty much emptied her loose change where I would be sure to find it !!?
I got back in the car and started heading home pretty happy about what had just transpired, and headed back to my hometown to check out an old gas station site I have gone by several times. Nothing of interest there, has been abandoned for YEARS. I got a signal my first 5 minutes which produced a 1970's Dime. As I am filling my small hole back up, a car comes whipping around the corner and Damn near hits mine !! A not-so-nice old man in what appeared to be his 80's, got out and asked me if I had found anything. I told him about & showed him the dime I just dug up. He responded "That would belong to me then" .... "I OWN this property and that makes it MINE" !! I gave it back to him and told him to use it for a tip instead of stiffing the next waitress he encounters like he almost surely does everytime he eats out. Came home shaking my head ALL the way.? ?
