Perhaps not surprisingly, the state of Texas is set to have a record breaking year for gun sales.
The Lone Star State is also set to lead the nation in gun purchases for 2013.
According to the Houston Chronicle,
The federal government completed 1.2 million background checks [in Texas] as of the end of September, according to the latest report released Friday.
That keeps Texas on track to surpass last year’s total of 1.4 million requests, the most ever. The state is trailed by California and Illinois, both on pace to set records as well.
In Texas, a concealed carry permit can also be used to purchase a weapon from a dealer in lieu of the background check. Given the high number of Texas citizens with a permit, it’s likely these sales numbers are even higher. In California, carry permits are much more rare than in Texas and Illinois does not yet have in place its new concealed carry system.
Unlike California and Illinois, Texas also allows for private gun sales between law abiding citizens without the need for a background check (but it’s still illegal for anyone to sell a gun to someone they suspect is a prohibited person).
Contrary to some media reports, the NICS background check system is still running during the government shutdown, meaning that politics in Washington are not affecting brisk gun sales.....:notworthy:

On another note there are now 1,149,836 Conceal Carry License Holders in the state of Florida..... :icon_thumleft:
(backlog of over 140,000 with paperwork filed and waiting on it to be processed.....)

Yup...we Idahoans already had ours.
