Found this on an old farm that has been around since the 1800's. There was a small civil war battle about 2 miles away and there was a Texas Regiment that fought in it. It is about 3 inches tall and anout 1.5 inches wide.
Any idea what it is. Not sure if it is a modern piece or not. I saw on another detecting websites recent finds a similar one that had the state of Kansas on it, but no explanation on what it was.

Anybody please help

Thanks
Gary

Looks like a fob for sure. Cool find. Maybe someone else can give you more info on it.

It's one of a series of state seal watch fobs produced around 1910. On the backs of many of these fobs was the inscription, "Warranted 14Kt gold plated on genuine bronze."

These were not official items issued by the states, but simply made for the retail trade, and were sold both individually and in sets featuring fobs of all the states.

In addition to this "shield" or "arrowhead" shape, there was also a series of state seal fobs with an irregular border, made to resemble a wax seal.

PBK, ;D

Thanks a million!!!! You were right on. Once I cleaned the back I saw the inscription. Now I know what it is an approximate date. T-Net members help again.
