Texas coast

Hi j, I live in Houston and I have an Open Water Divers license. Your offer sounds intriguing and adventurous. I don't have experience with wreck diving, but have done many dives and underwater detecting. I'd be interested, for sure.

Hi.. Just down the was at Ingleside on the bay... I have a boat... well a sail boat that might come in handy... Let me know if I can be of any help

I am looking for someone who has explored or is looking to explore wrecks on the Texas coast preferrably from Matagorda Island South to Padre island. I have the boat and enough tanks and dive gear to supply many days of diving.

jhuddleston,

Unfortunately, I'm spending a few years in england, but I'll be back in 2008. Please, whereever you decide to search, find out the legalities of it. N. Padre is off-limits- and a FANTASITIC place to hunt. Lots of spanish wood on the bottom of the gulf. coins are still washing up, but DON'T dake your MD. The feds will confiscate everything you have. And, if offshore, read up on salvage rights. They can last for a long time in Texas. Hope we can hunt together in the future

Johnny

Hay live here in Ingleside and am intrested in your offer. I have been doing research on wrecks and other things along the coast line. I have an old book that is out of print that has a rough layout of where things might be located. The thing about looking for anything in the water is anything within 10 ml I believe is off limits. let me know if we can get together and talk.

hey Esconditas my father-in-law lives on the bay. I use to keep a welcraft 29ft blue and white at his house.Maybe you saw it?

speedyshark: we should get together some time... I am down at Bahia Marina... Just ask for Esconditas...

Has anyone here heard of any confirmed wrecks past 10mi. I am aware of the laws and have many reports of wrecks in places such as decrose pt and other places on matagorda island and Padre island. It usually makes the men with badges frown real hard when they find you are looking on the beaches for relics of the civil war or spanish ships.

Don't know so I'm going to ask.

WHY is part of Padre island open to detecting and part closed? I see that from Malequite Beach south to just opposite Port Mansfield is the "Padre Island National Seashore". Is this a national Park? What is the reason given for having it off-limits?

Sorry about the dumb question, but I really am trying to understand why my government is about to trap me into being an outlaw.

It is my understanding that the National seashore south is scattered with wrecks and numerous artifacts wash up on the beach. The government believes that if enough people were on the beach with detectors it would cause a mass destruction of the archeological sites that hold the relics.

More archaeological sites have been found by us amateurs, ;D than all of the worlds govt. archaeological departments put together! :-[
And!
Yet!
They use the same old boring excuse, that, we're all "Pot Hunters" ! >:(
Hey!
I know of a cave, in Az. that has a mummified prehistoric indian (& pots) alongside of a mummified Mt. Loin!
AND!
They'll never EVER! Hear where it is from me! ::)
In Fact, this year I am going back and take a few photos and publish them..
W/o any reference as to the location!
Because I don't want THOSE POT HUNTERS to get them and put them away in some museum basement!
