Found an Athena coin with an Owl on the reverse. These tetradrachms date from around 300 B.C. I never seen it made into a necklace before which makes it very unique. The coin is silver, the hook is brass and the ball is bronze. By the looks of the patina the modification was done a very long time ago. Any info is welcome. Thanks.

jayhawk82, welcome to TNet. The necklace looks cool. Searching Google images for Tetradrachm "necklace" owl displays several pictures. Apparently making necklaces with these coins (or reproductions) was/is popular. Click here for an interesting article.

I believe this is a fantasy(reproduction) piece. They are coming out of europe quite frequently.....Joe McDonough

[FONT=&quot]The three Greek letters are alpha, theta, and epsilon, with the theta appearing as an O with a dot in the middle. The translation is 'of the Athenians'. If you believe it is not a repo, I suggest you get it authenticated. And if it is authenticated, you have a valuable coin of history.

Welcome Jayhawk, cool find,

I notice that whoever drilled this or created the casting model was careful not to obstruct the markings and images.
That might be an indication of it's authenticity as many examples of authentic pierced medallions/coins usually aren't
as carefully done. The swivel is a nice but, probably, recently done addition.

Best wishes, and good luck!
