I bought the 5.75 Tesoro Compadre version and was not happy with
the coil, my fault. The coil is way to small for open areas, like woods and
parks. The small coil forces you to swing to fast to cover more area and
the Compadre it not a fast swing machine.

The depth was ok but not great and I found that most target locks not that
solid. So I ordered the Compadre 8 inch coil version I said what the heck
they are so valued priced I don't have much to loose.

Wow what a difference a coil makes ! like night and day. Here are some
improvements I found swinging my new Compadre 8 inch coil
version.

1-targets are more louder and clear the machine is hotter now

2-better depth about 1 1/2 to 2 inch gain

3-better area coverage that allows you to swing the coil a lot slower

4-better vision pinpointing with the hole in the middle of the coil

5-better color (brown) does not show the dirt

6-can still find very tiny objects like tiny foil balls etc

7-works in the iron fine with the right swing rate (slow)

I have not tried the 8 inch version in modern park trash only in the woods.
So maybe the 5.75 version is better I dono ? I will keep my 5.75 Compare
for parts or for swing set areas in parks. In my opinion it was
the best thing Tesoro did to offer an 8 inch coil version of the Compadre.
It made a fun detector into a great detector !

As a Tesoro user from way back, I've always liked the 8" coil for most detecting, even over larger coils. That said, you'll be glad to have the smaller coil setup in trashy areas in parks, tot lots etc. From what you say, I'm wondering if your 5.75" Compadre could stand a bit of tweaking on the internal sensitivity pot. Compadres are hard to beat considering the price.

"I have not tried the 8 inch version in modern park trash...."

That's where the 5.75 shines. And it gets closer to metal objects like poles and fences.

Thanks for the comments luvsdux and Phantasman ! Yep I am going to keep the 5.75 for high trash parks and I think you right luvsdux I tiny tweak
of that pot and I should be good to go.
