Tesoro Cortez Vs. White's Xlt/Mxt

Have a birthday coming up in two weeks and my sweet, sweet fiancee is getting me an upgrade into the big leagues from my little Bounty Hunter Land Star I started out with. After much study, days spent on manufacturers websites, ebay, and reading the reviews forums here, I have narrowed down my choices between the Tesero Cortez and White's Xlt or Mxt. Not really sure what the difference is between the two Whites but well, that's what you guys are for! I'm going to be using my new machine for primarily coinshooting and relic hunting and may do a little freshwater and saltwater beaches. So without further ado, give me some opinions! (Note: The two main reasons I'm upgrading is for increased depth and vdi with a side order of better craftmanship)

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Did I put this in the wrong place?

This Port Arthur Cajun can't give any advice on the Tesoro but they do have the lifetime warranty, which seems to be a big selling point. I own a Bounty Hunter Lone Star and 2 White's, a Classic and a DFX. So I can't give any advice on the XLT ot MXT either, but I can tell you the XLT menus are similar to the DFX and can somtimes be a pain to scroll through, where as the MXT uses knobs. I can tell tou that when I was in the market for the DFX my dealer recommended the MXT over the XLT. I do know that the XLT has trouble on salt beaches but not sure about the MXT. From all the post I've read though, most MXT uses love their machines. Comparing my Whites to the Bounty Hunter I gain about 1-1/2" to 2" more depth, but the Lone Star is a lot easier to use.

don't know much about the cortez do have 2 tesoro machines no problems like them both but with the whites I would go with the MXT easy preset modes plus salt mode I used mine at beach worked good is a real good relic hunter and coin shooter good all around easy to use for the money good luck with what ever you buy :icon_sunny: Bob

I would go with the lifetime warranty.........only from Tesoro!

no way cortez all the way the mxt is over rated and alot heavier and you will get unbeatable service if you should need anything done and good luck on the whites choice oh if your a coin hunter 10 khz is kick ass!

Re: Tesoro Cortez Vs. White's Xlt/Mxt

This is my brother, he did in fact get the MXT. We have been to parks and I found with my Cortes just as much if not more. It's what is under the coil not the detector. I tried that thing out for a moment and thought my back would break from the weight of it! AND he payed what, I think a grand??? Not to mention I was immediately finding coins and he was "programing" that computer on a stick for like 20 minutes. Tesoro for me!

Re: Tesoro Cortez Vs. White's Xlt/Mxt

He didn't get the MXT then there's no programming on the MXT just knobs.

The cortez from tesoro is good but, your going to need reading glasses to see what the screen is telling you on those iffy targets. I think the discrimination isn't what it should be on tesoros either but i still like them and the lifetime warrenty is awesome. The xlt is going to be a slow swinging machine and if you do not know much about advanced settings it can be confusing. I like the mxt as it is easy to use, well balanced and built like a tank. I like tesoros also but not ones with a screen. If your back is about to blow out from using a whites for a little while then you have some major problems and better go to the doctor!! I think they are well balanced and I can swing with one for hours at a time.
