Ten box skunk streak

Mine was 14 at 2 boxes a week when I started, or 2 months of skunks, I almost gave up. I have seen others with 50+ and one person ( I can't remember who) posted a 100 box streak. HH, MAverick.

I have found just one 40% keeper my my last 16 boxes...and the last 9 boxes have been skunks. Picking up more boxes today...hopefully I'll break this smelly streak :-\

I had a 52-54 box skunk streak(can't remember the exact number), it ranged from August of 2011 until february of 2012 at 2 boxes a week... it was HORRIBLE, i am still getting so many skunk boxes, but the stray silver here and there ends my skunk streak at smaller numbers like 3-6 box streaks at 2 boxes a week.
hang in there... believe me, it only takes 1 good box to make it worth while.

Starting to think the greedy high volume hunters have culled out so much volume that its made CRH halves only viable for high turnover (ie several boxes a week).

you gotta get it while you can because one day there will be hardly any left.

Volume is key in this hobby!! We only do 6-8 boxes per week right now which is pretty good but not great so we'd definitely like to increase our volume. If they have the money then they have the right to get as many as the banks will order for them. We do our 6-8 boxes with a very small bankroll but we work together (my husband & I) to make it work & bust our butts between both our hectic work schedules to get it done.

I would say yes, if your only doing 1-2 boxes a week, you should brace your self for long skunk streaks, not everyone can do 7 8 10+ boxes a week, but that is what makes your odds better. I've done 6 boxes this week allready and 2 gave me 1 40 and 1 was a skunk. So if I only did 2 a week, I probably would have a skunk and 1 40. HH, Maverick.

All that work for a $2 coin and still going at it?? That's dedication.

There must be some areas of the country that have better boxes than other and it may well be worth the drive.

My longest skunk streak was exactly 30 boxes. It only lasted one day, as I hunted 35 boxes the day it happened. Still very frustrating.

Thanks for all the comments and advice. I know volume is key and I could bump it up to four per week but I can't stop myself from thinking it would just double my skunks. I know I shouldn't think like that but it's tough. I'll probably double it but I would feel better about it if I could just find one keeper. Thanks again and HH.

I don't think so, I think the silver stock in circulation always gets pulled out rapidly. It's all about the rate at which silver enters. Large collection dumps get culled out quick. So don't think of it as a set amount of silver that is getting depleted, think of it as a black box with inputs and outputs. Remember the large volume hunters also go threw a hell of a lot of clad so you don't have to! hee hee

It all depends on your area... Some areas have alot of hunters & not many silvers going back into boxes --> skunk city.

Other areas have fewer hunters & lots of ignorant people trading in silver fortunes for face value --> good boxes.

Volume is key. It can lead to a few or a lot, but it will always improve your chances. I try not to use the word 'greed' in this hobby. I think most of us agree that if we had the time/means, we would search as many coins as we could. 'Greed' to me is an ugly political word... I'll stop right there. Let me just say this is America, and that stack in my safe deposit box - ya, I BUILT THAT!
