Went out metal detecting around a old house going to be removed for new ones. I walked around the back of the barn and gasped!! There was 2 in. copper pipe all over the place. Guys no joke this stuff is old and very heavy. Right next to it was a pile of stainless steel and about this time i got real shaky. OK i know if i took this stuff my butt would land in jail but the evil side of AA said just take it. I hate theifs so i calmed down and just picked up the beer cans. What made me so crazy was there had to be over 100 pounds of copper just laying there. Just now i put in a call to the developer to get permission to pick it up but i fear it will be gone in a couple of days. Point is even though you think the developer might throw it away it is theirs......aa

AND, what did the the developer have to say?.
I got his voice mail :-\

That sucks for you, but at least you are honest about it. Someone else probably got it by now, and if they didn't once you talk to the develper he might keep it himself, or want something for it. At over 3 dollars a pound, it won't be there for long, not when thieves resort to stealing urns from cemetaries, thats about as low as you can go, and its happeneing around in my area more and more.

Fingers are crossed that he gives you the  but with the holiday, I wouldn't expect an answer till Tues.
Yup i think he or she left early.....aa

ah yes... the grey area. Looks like trash to me. But is it? Good call AA. I've also encountered similar situations.
It always feels good when you ask and they say, " yea, go ahead and take it "

It also feels good when you ask and they say '' THANKS for asking but that goes to...."

Or, I've just waited to see what happened to it. If it hit the trash it was free for the taking. Either way, ask or wait, when I got it I didnt have the thought in the back of my mind that I was stealing. And believe me those grey areas are very common when you scrap.

The developer called and seems they resold the property so its was a no :-\

So, find out the new owner's name and ask them if they would mind you cleaning up their property as all that metal is wrecking havoc with your detector. Or some such story-work it.
