Tell me what I've got.

Digging at a site where a house burned down. Not sure how long ago. But I've been finding burned and melted things from the 20s -30s. Love this piece, not sure what it is. Thinking of having something made out of it. It has a makers mark on the back. Any help would be appreciated. The penny is for size reference. 20160125_205531.webpthanks 20160125_205609.webp

Yes, definitely half of a Ladies' Dress-Sash buckle. The use of very prominent swirls and curves in its design suggests it is from the Art Nouveau era (mid-1880s to mid-1910s). Please tell us what the maker's-mark on its back says... it might narrow down that time of manufacture.

Since it has great appeal to you, perhaps hunting that spot close--&-careful could turn up its other half.
