I made a couple more trips to the bullet school. Cleaning up a section at a time gridding and digging all the mid tones, high tones and combination iffy tones. These sections are target light for the most part, but there are always a few coins and if I’m lucky an occasional goodie.
DAY 1
At the school I spent 5 hours with the CZ21 and found 25 coins with a face value of $0.91, a plated spoon bowl, a fancy iron key, a modern bullet, a live 9mm round, a wheatie, a pressure gauge, a stainless spoon, a skeletal unicorn missing his horn (non metallic eyeball find), foil, can slaw, and the usual pile of tabs.
The wheatie is a well worn 1912 you can just barely make out the date. The pressure gauge is a SCRADER UNIVERSAL TIRE PRESSURE GAUGE. It has patent dates of 1909 and 1916 so my guess would be it is probably from the 1920s.
DAY 2
I spent 5 more hours with the CZ21 at the school and I found 30 coins with a face value of $1.63, 2 great seal items, a civil war bullet, a wheatie, a small tap handle, a copper rivet, a modern bullet, an earring without the post, some foil, can slaw and only 8 taps for a change.
The civil war bullet is a minie ball and looks like it was fired and not damaged by earth moving equipment. The first great seal item is a coat button. The back is badly mangled so no backmark to determine the age. It could be anywhere from 1902 to the present. From what I have found here it is probably WW2. The second item is a mystery. It has a cuff sized great seal button front, but has a post and a base like it fastened onto something else. It could be a cuff link missing the back plate, but I’m not sure. Has anyone even seen anything like this before? Any help would be appreciated. Unfortunately it is mashed up and part of the front is missing.
The modern bullet is a new version of a hollow point that uses a plastic tip. The one on the left is the one I found this time and the one on the left is one a found at the school months ago. Both are drops, not fired.
DAY 3
Scout camp is over for the year. Some other groups rent parts of the camp so I can only detect parts not in use, but it’s a big camp so no problem.
I spent 6.5 hours swingin the CZ21 doing a once over of the high spots in one campsite and part of another. Lots more targets than I was expecting. Altogether I found 150 coins with a face value of $16.24, 128 camp tent pegs, a magnesium block fire starter, 4 rope tensioners, 2 sinkers, a neckerchief slide, a copper ring made by one of the scouts working on metalwork merit badge, a stainless spoon, a good Winchester knife, a personal tent rope tensioner, a decently heavy carabiner, a pile of melted aluminum from the camp fires and 2 can tabs.
The neckerchief slide is a nice shiny new one. I have found hundreds of these and this is the first one that looks like it just came off the shelf. The magnesium fire starter has been in the ground a long time, but I think it will still work.
More coins than I expected and also more pegs. I found this cool looking clump of bright orange fungus. I also found a nice little toad, but I didn’t take his picture.
DAY 4
Went back to the park I found 2 silver rings in last week knowing it was not likely to repeat, but you’ve got to try or it definitely won’t happen.
I spent 6 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 172 coins with face value of $7.41, a piece of harmonica reed, a screw on cap, a brass whatzit, a modern bullet, a Canadian penny, a few aluminum cans, can slaw and a few tabs.
The brass whatzit looks familiar, but I can’t remember where I have seen it before. It has 4 screw holes so it can be fastened onto a something. The ring flips up like a handle. If anyone knows what it is please feel free to respond.
No silver this week, but I did find another civil war bullet and a big pile of coins. Also I nice group of interesting items including 2 mystery items I could use help with. Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
