Detector(s) used
AT Pro & Ace 250
Ran across something strange this morning. I was out in the backyard with my Discovery 2200 and came across a signal that registered under the $1 symbol. NATURALLY I began to dig it up. What I came across was a rock lodged in cement or so I thought. After trying to dislodge this rock, I found out the rock was actually metal. Striking it with a hatchet (had to bring out the bigger guns) produced marks on it that showed it was actually made of metal. After running the detector over it a few times, it still showed under the $1 symbol. Now I know that the previous owners had a basketball net/pole cemented in the ground. I put up a new one in a different location so I brought the detector over to the new one and swiped it a few times past the pole and I also got the $1 symbol for it. What would cause these poles to register under this symbol? I'm pretty sure the new pole is made out of a heavy aluminum or whatever the new court poles are made out of since it is fairly new.

Any help on this before I waste a bunch of sweat and time trying to dislodge this rock if it just turns out to be an old basketball court pole that was cut down.

Thanks in advance.

I probably wouldn't bother with it...the $1 signal just means it's big and conductive. Since you can see it's a rock, it is either high in metal content or has a bolt embedded in it.

Thanks Beep. Will pass on it and will eventually get down to a site by a stream that use dto have a road there and a think a footpath (according to 1922 artist rendered map). Let you all know what I find when I get the MD down there.
