Went out today for about 2 hours to try out my new toy. I just got a 5.3 Eclipse coil for my DFX. I took it to the trashest site I could find. I turned it on and started swinging. I was getting about 4 to six signals per swing so I had to go real slow. I was testing it out so I dug a litte bit of everything. I was hoping it would show the true depth of very small targets but all of the sinkers I dug said 5 or 6 inches and most of them were at two or less. Every coin I dug had a pulltab or lead fishing sinker with in inches of it. I really like this coil I hear I will lose some depth but this thing really lets me get between the targets. The earing is .925 and the ring has no marks on it so I guess it trash. This site has so many pulltabs that you can almost find one in every swing. I had already went over this site with my large stock coil and the trash targets must of masked the coins as most of them came from three inches or less.

Thanks for looking

Looks like you had a good day, that detector coil looks to be worth the investment..... :)

hey kermit nice coil , I like the small coil for the separation especially in tight areas. I tend to use my smaller coil in the summer time. Keep us posted on your finds

Thanks for the report Kermit. Gotta have all the tools of the trade. I am like the rest of the large coil masses - Just avoid those trash sites or dig pull tabs! :D A lot of split shot there. Sounds like a real challenge. What do those lead split shot vdi at?

Bob

Lead VDI's

very small like a BB VDI of 4 to 8

small VDI of about 10 to 15

Med about as big
as round as a pencil VDI of 20 to 30

large would be about
1/4 to 1/2 oz. VDI can go from 40 to 65

Some hit higher on the scale and some lower. I think it has to do with what they are made of and the shape. I hunt a lot of swimming holes so these things are the pull tabs ugly sister. When I do find a Civil war site to hunt look out.

Neat finds with your new coil. What about dates on the coins or all just clad?

HH :)

Just Clad. I pull out out alot of late 60's and 70's coins

It sure pays to have more than coil. The standard for normal hunting, a small one for trashy areas and a larger one for open field relic huting.
