Re: Tampa Bay Cannonball?

Can we see something in the picture for size reference?

This was found a couple of days ago in upper Tampa bay. My brother used his Excal up in the mangroves at the waters edge. Was about 18 inches deep. Cannon ball, something to melt lead in? He says it is solid lead. Thanks

With the clips on the side and a dimple at the edge, it reminds me of net weight.

Its shaped like a ladle ( note the spout). Id say it was left over from someones bullet or sinker casting.

Don't know the exact size, it is on the way to me. Think it is 3 or 4 inches in diameter.

I have another pic of it that is not very good, but it does have a point on each end.

If it is solid lead, it's gonna be hard to melt lead in it.

That makes sense. Left over lead that cooled while in metal laddle.

Yes, it was dug up right at Oldsmar. It is about 3 inches in diameter. Talked to brother this morning and it is definitely lead which kinda rules out crucible. What kinda age do you give on this? WAG

That's a neat find!
The mangroves are hard to detect around in though... must have been a pain to detect & dig!
