TF and I headed out to an area he found on an old map that appears to have been a series of farm houses and roads. It is now part of the CCFP. In order to get there, we had to muck our way through mosquito-infested terrain and accept the fact that our shoes and pants were soaked through and through. There were also fields of those "stickers", you know, those burrs that stick to your clothes in bunches like grapes. Well, we finally found the spot, but it turned out too inhospitable to detect. After we agreed to come back in the fall, we found our way back to our cars and decided to head over to the camp, but not before being threatened by a cop who was parked there. Long story...maybe another time.
So we hit the camp instead, and tried a few areas in addition to our new spot that has been producing rather well. I ended up with a 1936 mercury dime, 1944 P war nickel, and two other early Jeffersons, a 1940 and a 1946. Also found were the usual fare, foil galore, eating utensils, shotgun shells, and two "Be Prepared" pins, one with the back pin still intact. They both claim the date 1911 on the back. I also dug a set of 5 keys, still attached to a rusty old keyring. Strangely enough, I also dug a 200? zinc cent at 6 inches in a very remote section of the camp. Very odd indeed.
Hope you all find good stuff this weekend!
