WHITE'S MXT (and man is she hot!)
I posted this in today's finds with a few other coins...
http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,157786.new.html
and asked for help grading it, but I think too many people have already looked at it and won't take the time to take a stab at grading it...I was under the impression it may be an $8 dollar or less coin, but someone seems to be under the impression that it may be worth more. So, here's a chance to help a fellow TNetter! Give me a best guess at grade/value and why you think so. I don't have my hopes up or anything, I am just curious. I dug her at 8.5 inches with my MXT, and she is a beaut! I don't know much about coins, I am learning though. I just like to find them. She hasn't been cleaned or anything, just wiped off with water, I could probably get some of the dirt off from around the letters if I were careful and only used water...

If you have any questions or would like to see more pics, just let me know!
Thanks in advance!

Nice coin there AF! I'm sure you were pumped  .. Anyhow, based on the "Redbook", I would say your dime is vf-20, if you did'nt scratch it too bad getting the dirt off. You would pay a dealer roughly $55 for this coin, however the dealer would probably only give you $25!! Great find and good luck to ya, Gpurs...

Little too much glare in the pics, and can't get a good read on the obverse. Just based on the reverse (and it's a little bright too) it's pretty close to an EF. (Photograde)

WOW, Thanks a lot guys, and a special thanks for that e-bay link, I was plenty pumped before, but I am even more pumped now. I will take better photos tomorrow if it's raining and post again...without the dirt on the letters. Thank you all for your posts!

Where did all the micro scratches come from?
Did you clean it?
If you didn't I would give it a EF 40...
If it was cleaned VF20 at best.

Cleaning will drop by a full grade regardless.
Sorry to give bad news.

Yes, the scratches will really hurt it. These are very common on dug coins, just rubbing the dirt off will do it. Do not use a pencil eraser on it, that would just add to the problem. Regardless, it is a beautiful coin.

Still, no on the cleaning. Only rinse under tap water for about 30 seconds. No cleaning.
thanks for the posts...

i would use a pencil eraser around the edge and it will shine up even more nice coin

I hope you are only kidding. Any kind of cleaning, even a soft bristle tooth brush risks destroying any value the coin has. I can already see hairline scratches in this coin running left to right.

Thanks AMorgan, I think I scratched her when I first found her, wiping the dirt away (not used to finding such nice coins). Thanks again for your estimation Thom (Old Dog) I do so appreciate it!

I'd just like to 2nd what Alan and Thom said. It's been scratched, probably from wiping away dirt like you said. If it was graded you would probably get it returned because it was dug up and scratched. If this coin was found without the dirt and without you scratching it I'd say it would be worth around $60-$120 or so. But as it sits it's probably not worth more than $20 if that. It's a nice coin though. You might be able to sell it at an antique store or something for a decent bit. Who knows. It depends on who's buying the coin, if they can see what some of us can see.

Either way, that is an absolutely FANTASTIC find!! One you should be very proud of. Please take a lesson here about wiping off coins and such. Also be very careful when running water over them as that can scratch coins too. Make sure the water is very well filtered.
