Re: T-REX Dinosaur??

I think it is way to heavy made for a newer item related to the jurrasic park movie. Copper or brass is just not something they use to make items now days. Plastic is more like it! :laughing7:

Re: T-REX Dinosaur??

I have to think the find is older than Jurassic Park memorabilia, too.
Of course the folks living at the turn of the 20th century also had a great intrest in Egyptian artifacts being found at the time and this sometimes tends to
make folks forget they were also very fond of dinosaurs and everything prehistoric here, in America.
Short version: Maybe an item from the turn of the century to the mid 1920's, depending on the age of other relics, of course.
Great find, whatever the case may be!

Re: T-REX Dinosaur??

Sorry. Don't see T-Rex at all. The rim suggests it might be a cog or gear. It is interesting. Center might be chrysoprase.

He is there but it is hard to see. You can see it in the top pic. The glass has become cloudy in the ground!

Hello Tuberale!
I see what you mean about the gear thing, but there isn't a hole/recess to mount it on anything that I can see. :dontknow:
You can make out the "T-Rex" by changing the settings on the picture (once you download it to look closer) but it isn't very obvious at first.

Raised interior rim indicates to me a setting. If chrysoprase, actually a form of quartz with nickel in it, called "Nickel Bloom". Considered a semi-precious stone. If chrysoprase, this has been carefully selected: darker blues and less green than most chrysoprase I have seen and picked up. I used to teach in John Day, Oregon, and saw many many pieces of chrysoprase on Little Canyon Mountain, just east of Canyon City, which is immediately south of John Day.

I can see what might be described as a vestigial outline of a T-Rex on the surface. Maybe being prepared for carving?

May have been made with an ornament bezel in mind, for creating a pendant or broach.

Re: T-REX Dinosaur??

at first it appeard to be a Hologram

Which if it is, it would be Jurassic Park Related.

But as you say it appears too well Made
for 1990's through 21st Century.

all the Holograms I'v seen were Plastic in round Tin Frames

Not to sound silly but what is a POG slammer???
Its some kind of game that was popular in the 90's but the game was played in the 20's and 30's as well. I think the slammer piece was made of brass and heavier. I think its a good guess.

BTW we need to know the size of the item. Thanks. :icon_thumright:

Re: T-REX Dinosaur??

WTG GL good call. I owned a hobby shop in the 90's and sold POG'S. I recognized it right off :icon_thumright:

Re: T-REX Dinosaur??

You guys sure on the pog slammer ID? I looked at a few online and they looked nothing like what I have here. Atleast the ones I saw didn't. Do you all have any photos of older ones from the 20's or 30's?
I'm not saying its not because I had never even heard of pog slammers. Would love to have some pics from older ones! Thanks

Re: T-REX Dinosaur??

Its too early to call it solved.
For starters we need to know the size of the item. Is it smaller than a Volkswagen? :D
Very good pictures BTW but hard to tell the size by the wood grain. :help:

Re: T-REX Dinosaur??

Well I'm at work right now but it is about the size of a half dollar around and about the thickness of two half dollars put together. Hope this helps! When I get home I will take more pics

Thats good enough for the size :icon_thumright: but in the future its helpful to put something of known size for reference in the pic or a ruler.

The first POGs were milk bottle caps so I guess the size is right. Hopefully someone will find a pic.
