From the Greenlawn Cemetary in Pratt, Kansas

Brown, C.C.-- 1898 to 1902(Cuba, Philippine Islands, & Porto Rico USA Spanish Vet. Also Eagle Insig. T.O.T.E. Imp'd)

Could be something relating to the Spanish-American War.

Fraternal Order of Eagles was founded in 1898.

Hey, MJ... I could hear you typing when I hit "Post"! :D

Jeff, here's an Improved Order of Red Men stickpin.

Note "Imp. O.R.M." and, directly beneath it, "T.O.T.E."

Cool. Thanks !

I almost threw it out as just a flat burnt piece of Metal.

I know it has no $$ Value.

But it now has a "I found it" Value To me :P

Should have kept the rest, maybe a large plaque
at one time.

Yeah, old fraternal stuff can be very interesting— and sometimes offer important clues about the history of a site or individual.

Here's a page with more info on the IOORM, and a lot of their pins, badges, lodge jewels, etc.

I do know the place was used by the Scouts in the
30's.

There is a Creek that Runs down the mountain
behind the cabin that turns into Awsome water falls
as it winds through Rock when we get heavy rains.

There are also Plaques Cemented into the rocks
that name the place, But I don't remember what they say.

The Wood was Cut right there & the Stone Also.

When I first came upon the place out in the middle of nowhere

It was calling to me to move in :P

Later I heard the State park was planning on tearing it down
because you can't have buildings on state park property.

The local Heratige society, found out if they call it a
Pavilion the park won't remove it.

So they hung Historical Pictures in it &
put a Guest book in & pamphlets.
Now it can stay :P

Jeff, I was really active in the Boy Scouts (Eagle Scout) and had a lot of my Uncles older stuff including his Scout Manual and in the 30's they had to learn Indian Sign language. All that said, I don't recall ever having heard the term "The Order of the Eagle" although a local Council may have had some time of group.
