My friends house just burned to the ground. He isn't a big collector but he did have a sword- a society sword, not of great monatery value I don't think, knights of the templar. I looked up the maker and found it was probably made between 1923-1925 although I'm not 100% positive, none the less it has more value to him as a family heirloom. It was in a cabinet with other items - the cabinet and all the contents burned. The sword is...........okay yet- encrusted with burnt residue, the leather is burnt but the sword in general isn't too bad, lots of soot, rust, etc. Soo.. my question is this, I know you're not supposed to use solevents and cleaning chemicals in general, just wax and elbow grease BUT given the condition of the sword, and given the fact that it's not worth a lot of money couldn't I use these things
