Is there script writing on the blade about 3" down from the hilt. I zoomed in the picture and there's what looks like marking down to that first big black spot on the blade.

It looks like a machete - African is my first guess? - A better photo of handle carving might narrow it's origin down.

Google Trinidad machete case - style looks similar - might give you a lead

With the all-leather sheath, I would say Mexican, Central, or South American machete. Need close up pix of any markings and the handle. Nice piece! Sub 8-)

The sheath is def handmade, knowing the type of wood would really narrow it down. It's a little better than a village made spring leaf machete. Was your bosses dad a vet, I don't think he got that just anywhere? That handle has me thrown, the style of carving? I want to say Indonesian.

The listing for this one had expired, so I couldn't find the information they had.

He had inherited it from his aunt who he said traveled a lot . I'm guessing her husband could have been a veteran. I'll get more info Monday.
Thanks for your help guys !
