sword hanger?

both of these ive dug within the last two months and havent a clue what they are.. the piece on the right is maybe a sword hanger thanks Jeff

They both went on leather & the left looks pretty old, however I don't think the right is a sword hanger.

Dunno Crusader, it's not the kind of sword hanger we usually think of. There was a double setup for suspending a rapier which had the majority of the weight on one large strap (main frog) and another small removable strap for securing that hooked on the belt (slim chance it could possibly be this)). Can't find a picture at the moment except for modern repro versions which don't show much detail on the lightweight strap attachment.

I agree with you though, the way this is attached to the leather is flimsy and probably couldn't withstand long use that included any pulling (would have been riveted in that case probably) . I'm wondering what those tassels or decorations you see on some draft or parade horse's foreheads are attached to? You'd imagine they would be removable to be cleaned or replaced? Could be a harness hook for something lightweight like that?

I agree they went on leather. I dug one like the one on the left a while back. I'm sure both are colonial period but have no idea what what the hook would be for. Like someone else said the attachments to the leather don't look strong enough to support much weight or heavy use. both are cool pieces though
