Sword guard?

I find this today at a spot where I found a Civil War powder flask in the past. My first thought was a sword guard, but I have never found anything like this so I don't know. The big thing that makes me doubtful is it's iron, and most sword guards I have looked up are brass or another type of non-ferrous metal. Any help would be appreciated.

Thats what I thought but the ends of the item are bent as well, I would think a handle would have straight ends to attach to a door/dresser? I could be wrong

I agree, probably off of furniture. I can't find any matching kind of sword handle online.

Well it is definitely a handle...
Could be from a barn door etc...
But... here is "gig" with this item...
I think there was "heat involved"...
Because of the open hole design... but could be wrong.

If you were laying in the ground for a 100 years or so you would be looking pretty bent also:laughing7:
