Hello all.

I found what I thought was a Canadian coin while at Daytona beach this past weekend, it was deep in the wet sand at low tide at the waters edge probably close to 8 + inches deep. It was hard to read due to the corrosion, I could only make out a 10 on reverse side till it was cleaned.

Now after soaking it over weekend this morning I see it isn't Canadian but rather a Swiss 10 centimes.

It's not much, but till the Surf God gives up something better it will have to do.

Here is the coin, only difference is mine is dated 1932. It is in nice shape and will take pic when I'm Home.

(Picture below is from an website on Swiss coins, its not mine I will upload mine soon.)

How did you clean it? Just soap and water, soaking, brushing, electrolysis, or what? Just curious. Thanks.

I put it in vinegar and water over weekend, then used a tooth brush and toothpaste, then soft pencil eraser.

OK, thanks for the quick reply. I've used vinegar and even ketchup...anything with a small amount of acid in it. I haven't tried the toothpast or the pencil eraser. I learn something fascinating everyday. I'll try those the next time I get something that needs cleaning. HH

When I first saw your pictures my thoughts were "Wow, it's in really good condition" and "Those are pretty good scans too" :D!

I found one of those swiss coins in nickel rolls once except it was a 20. I love finding foreign money! It's like a special treat! ;D

Neat coin Treasure Hunter, One of the great things about hunting the beaches down here is people from all over the world come here to lose there stuff. I go over to Daytona once in a wile, Clearwater beach on the west cost is a great beach to hunt also. HH

Nice to find the foreign currency

Cool find. I expect since the Euro became the standard currency to see less and less of the interesting coinage particular to each country.

I added the pictures of the one I found.

Teklord who was your hunt Friday?

Very cool find. First time I have seen one of those particular coins. Err atleast I think it is. Spent some time in Switzerland but don't remember what the coins looked like. I don't think they looked like that one though.

Great find and great cleanup job,
